Southwest Farms – Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead Monday morning at his Southwest Ranches home.
Davis' longtime friend and business partner Vladimir Moise confirmed his death.
According to Broward property records, the residence on SW 178th Avenue is owned by Adaline Davis, the grandmother of former Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis.
Davie police investigators said no foul play is suspected.
Davis' former coach Chester Frazier also confirmed the death to X on Twitter.
During a Zoom news conference on Monday, Fighting Illini head football coach Brett Bielema said he competed against Davis as an assistant coach in the NFL when he wasn't coaching Davis.
Bielema said Davis was a “well-liked” player at Illinois and spoke of Davis' “passion” and “intensity.”
“I saw an incredibly talented player; he checked all the boxes,” Bielema said. “I know he's not only going to be a great college player, but he's going to be great in the NFL.”
The Dolphins drafted Davis in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft but traded him to the Indianapolis Colts during the 2012 training camp.
Davis is best known for his retirement announcement in 2018 in the middle of a game between his team, the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Davis is 35 and has played ten seasons with various teams.
No cause of death has been released pending an autopsy
