An American Airlines ground crew member was killed today at Montgomery Regional Airport, the airport said.
“An American Airlines ground crew Piedmont employee was involved in a fatality around 3 p.m. today, and no additional information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased,” the tweet read.
The airport issued a statement at 7.45 pm
“We are saddened to hear of the tragic loss of a crew member at AA/Piedmont Airlines,” said Wade A. Davis said.
The airport has resumed operations as usual from 8:30 pm today, the airport tweeted.
“FAA investigation into Piedmonts tragic crash continues,” the tweet said.
“We are devastated by the accident at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM) involving a crew member of American Airlines’ regional carrier, Piedmont Airlines. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are focused on making sure everyone involved gets the support they need during this difficult time,” an American Airlines spokesperson said.
Piedmont Airlines is working with the NTSB, FAA and local law enforcement to investigate the incident.
American Airlines did not provide additional information due to the ongoing investigation.
American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, “was fatally injured” at Montgomery Regional Airport, the FAA said in a statement to AL.com.
More information will be available when the FAA posts a preliminary report by the next business day, the FAA statement continued.
