Bo Nicks named the Broncos

The expected is now official.

In his Wednesday press conference, Broncos head coach Sean Payton named rookie Bo Nix as the team’s starting quarterback.

The Knicks, the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft, beat out Jared Stidham for the role. Although Denver also acquired former Jets No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson this offseason, Wilson doesn’t appear to be in serious contention to be the QB1.

Payton credited Knicks’ consistency and off-schedule throws as reasons he won the contest.

“It is not A reflection on Jared or Zach” Payton said, via Nick Kosmider of TheAthletic.com. “That’s what it’s all about [Nix] Was able to do it quickly.

“It was a total job.”

Nicks had a nice debut against the Colts, engineering four scoring drives as the second QB in the game behind Stidham. He then started over the weekend against the Packers and led two scoring drives.

In two preseason games, Knicks is 23-of-30 for 205 yards with two touchdowns. He rushed six times for 29 yards.

Nicks is the first rookie to start Week 1 for the Broncos since John Elway in 1983.

The Broncos close out their season this weekend against the Cardinals before playing another NFC West foe in the Seahawks to open the 2024 season.
