DC-area forecast: Sunny and warm Father’s Day, with rain holding off

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

10/10: All-Star Forecast for Father’s Day — Sunny skies and heat! (The estimate doesn’t take into account that we actually need rain.)

  • Today: Mostly sunny with low humidity. Highs: Mid to upper 80s.
  • Tonight: Mostly clear, yet convenient. Lows: Upper 50s to mid 60s.
  • Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, very hot, touchy humidity. Highs: 80s to near 90s.

It was a lovely end to the weekend with lots of sunshine and comfortable humidity. Expect more humidity tomorrow, but the first half of the week is dry after looking once again with the potential for some much-needed rain. Now we’ll have to wait and see if low pressure cooks up better rain chances later in the week or into next weekend.

Today (Father’s Day): Expect mostly sunny highs in the mid to upper 80s, perhaps a couple of degrees warmer than our “nice day” high of 85 degrees. Light northwesterly winds keep things cool and comfortable in mid-June (dew points near or below 50) with very little humidity. Get outside and enjoy the nice weather! (But don’t forget the sunscreen.) Confidence: High

Tonight: A high-pressure area often keeps us clear. Winds are still comfortable, although humidity levels will be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Juneteenth): Sunny skies continue, with temperatures and humidity slightly higher than Sunday. Highs in the 80s to near 90 with light winds from the south and southeast. Slightly higher humidity (dew points near 60) is noticeable but still not too bad for the time of year. Use sunscreen and stay hydrated during outdoor activities. Confidence: Medium High

Tomorrow night: Increasing clouds and a bit more humidity. Lows will fall into the mid to upper 60s. Confidence: Medium

A low pressure system is to our south Tuesday and Wednesday. At one point it looked like we could see some good rain, but now that low pressure will stay to the south and only a few showers each day. Otherwise we’re partly sunny and still just humid, with lows to highs in the mid-80s.
