Google Pixel 9 Pro XL specs leaked, AI feature demoed

Pixel 9 phones are everywhere these days, except where they should be: covered. The latest list of specifications for the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL leaks almost daily and is the latest.

As we’ve heard before, the 9-series will break from tradition and roll out with the current Android 14 instead of launching the next version. This could be a side effect of pushing the release forward (the Pixel 8 phones came out in November). The 9-series phones will get 7 years of feature drops just like the 8-series.

The Pixel 9 Pro XL (as well as the vanilla Pixel 9 and 9 Pro) will be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset paired with a Titan M2 security chip. The Pro XL has 16GB of RAM and 128GB of storage as base, with storage options going up to 1TB. Base price will be $1,100. The 256GB model will be $1,200, but it looks like pre-orders will get a free storage upgrade to 512GB.

The XL phone is named for its 6.8” display, OLED panel with 1,344 x 2,992px resolution and brightness up to 3,000 nits (note: some earlier leaks suggested 6.73” diagonal and low brightness). The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The punch hole in it is a 42MP selfie camera with f/2.2 lens.

At the rear, a 50MP wide-angle camera with f/1.68 lens will be joined by a 48MP 5x periscope (f/2.8) and a 48MP ultra-wide (123°, f/1.7). Based on an earlier leak, the main camera will feature a Samsung GNK 1/1.31” sensor and OIS. The ultra-wide module will use the Sony IMX585 (1/2.51″). These two cameras will feature on all three Pixel 9 models. Exclusive to the Pro and Pro XL will be the telephoto module, which will use the same IMX858 sensor and OIS. It seems that Google really likes this sensor because it’s the selfie module. Note that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold uses a different camera setup.

There’s no word on battery charging in this leak, but the previous one described a 5,060mAh and 45W wired charging (wireless speed TBD) capability.

Naturally, the phone will have Gemini AI-powered functions. Pixel Studio uses AI to create images. Below is a demo of Reimage turning an object in a photo into something else, a road becoming a river. There will be an AI-powered weather app that will provide summaries and outfit tips, and a screenshot search that will dig up a specific screenshot in your image gallery based on natural language prompts.
